Coast

Coast

Coast are contantly being shaped by nature. Where coast are exposed, the action of powerful ocean current and landscape to form cliffs and headlands. On more sheltered coast, sediments build up to form sandy beaches, dunes, mudflats, and salt marshes. River also affect coast, as they lose energy and leave behind the sediments they carry when they approach the sea.

Coastal erosion

Pounting relentlessly, day after the day, waves plays a key roles in shaping the coastline. They break agasint the shore with immense force , dislodging weak or loose rock material and grinding it into pebble. Repeatedly hurled back against the shore by the waves, the pebbles themselves increase the waves’s erosion action.steady waves the size of waves – and their power- depands on the strength of the winds and how far the waves travel before they break on the shore.

River laden with sediment dump their cargo at river mouths to form wide shallow area called estuaries. Sea waves and currents wash much of the sediment along the coastline. The mud and sand form beaches, sand dunes, and headlines, which help to protect the coastlines from erosion. The sediment bulid- up sediments can be washed or blown futher along the coasts, into offshore waters, and even on to land, where they form dunes.
