Deepika Padukone, daughter of Indian badminton player Prakash Padukone, was born and raised in Denmark. Deepika's family moved to Bangalore when she was 11 years old. Deepika's younger sister is a rising golfer.

Deepika made her acting debut in the Kannada film 'Aishwarya'. The following year, she starred in the film 'Om Shanti Om', which tells the story of rebirth. The film was a financial success and Deepika won the Filmfare Best Newcomer Award for her performance.
